As the eyebrows descend with age due to gravity and the loss of tissue elasticity, the eyelids appear heavier and the eyes smaller. The activity of the forehead muscles may also accentuate folds and vertical lines between the eyes as well as horizontal lines above and across. Dr. Wisnicki may effectively be able to treat this condition with neuromodulators such as Botox® or Xeomin® creating a so-called “chemical lift” of the forehead which effectively decreases muscle motion and may provide brow elevation. This approach avoids surgery and can be quickly performed in his West Palm Beach office.
Surgery may be indicated in more severe cases of brow heaviness or ptosis. There are different techniques including an open approach, hiding incisions within the hair as well as a more limited temple lift reducing the size of the resulting scars. These procedures are often done at the same time as a blepharoplasty or eyelid lift and a rhytidectomy or facelift. Recovery time when these procedures are combined is generally not prolonged. All are performed as an outpatient, typically in one of our licensed centers in Palm Beach County, Florida.
