Procedures

Face and Necklift

These procedures will reduce the sagging skin of the face and neck along with excess fat; creating a more youthful, contoured appearance.  Refinements in face and necklifts with tightening of underlying tissues can offer longer lasting results.  Many patients may be candidates for newer, limited incision lifts and Dr. Wisnicki will discuss this with you.

Combination with other facial procedures including blepharoplasty, browlift and injection of fillers may result in an even more dramatic outcome.  Procedures can typically be performed on an outpatient basis.  Options for overnight stay or home nursing care for those who desire it are available.

Blepharoplasty

The eyes usually demonstrate the first clues of aging.  Eyelid surgery can effectively eliminate the excess skin and contour the puffiness caused by bulging fat, which contribute to these telltale signs.  The “constantly tired” look can be transformed into a more relaxed, rested appearance.

Eyelid contours, which are less than desirable may be the result of inherited traits, not just aging.  A person may benefit from blepharoplasty to address these issues as well.

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and sutures are usually out in three to five days.

Forehead/Browlift

Forehead or brow sagging (ptosis) may also contribute to the appearance of heaviness around the eyes.  A browlift can significantly soften the appearance of the eyes and help smooth the forehead.  This is often done together with blepharoplasty for an impressive overall improvement of the upper portion of the face.

Rhinoplasty (Nasal Surgery)

Reshaping of the nose can make a dramatic positive difference in facial appearance and personal confidence.  Even small refinements can significantly enhance self-image.

The procedure is generally done through incisions that are hidden inside your nose.  In some cases, a small incision on the underside of the nose may be recommended.  The bone and cartilage of your nose is then reshaped to create a more pleasing contour.  A nasal plaster splint may be applied for five to seven days.  Nasal packing is not usually placed.

Breathing problems caused by septal deviation or other internal deformities may also be addressed during surgery to improve nasal appearance.  These procedures may be performed on an outpatient basis.

Chin Augmentation

The placement of a chin implant, when indicated, will result in a stronger, more balanced facial profile.  It will afford more projection to the receding chin.  The implants are typically made of a solid silicone material and are anatomically shaped to produce an ideal contour.  The implant is typically place through an incision hidden in the crease under the chin.  It is often done in conjunction with a rhinoplasty or other facial procedures.

Skin Treatments

Ancillary treatments of facial skin or other areas can improve texture, color and evenness of tone.  These include microdermabrasion and peels.  Ask Dr. Wisnicki and his staff about how this can be incorporated into your skin care regimen.

Injectable Fillers - Restylane, Juvederm, Zyderm, Cosmoplast

A variety of injectable fillers are now available to help soften facial folds and wrinkles.  These can be extremely effective in enhancing the results of facial surgery or providing improvement to areas of concern when one isn’t quite ready for a surgical procedure.  Dr. Wisnicki will review the various materials available and their relative advantages.

Botox® Cosmetic

Botox ®  Cosmetic is a purified protein which can effectively reduce muscle motion causing facial frown lines.  It is injected in very low doses, causes minimal discomfort and can smooth out the skin surface in just a few days.  Results can last up to four months and follow-up treatment may be beneficial thereafter.

Otoplasty

Prominent or protruding ears may be source of embarrassment or self-consciousness in children and adults.  Otoplasty (”ear pinning”) sets the ear position back in a more natural relationship to the head.  Normal ear folds may be surgically restored.  These procedures are often performed just before children start school to avoid peer ridicule.  Surgery can be done on an outpatient basis.

Liposuction - Tumescent, Ultrasonic

Liposuction (lipoplasty, suction lipectomy) can very effectively address unwanted contours and bulges throughout the body.  Fat cells are permanently removed with very fine tubes or cannulas under high-suction pressure.  “Saddlebags”, “lovehandles” and many other areas that seem stubbornly resistant to diet and exercise, can be transformed into pleasing lines and curves.

Areas that may benefit from these procedures include the face and chin, the arms, chest (gynecomastia), breasts, abdomen, waist, hips, thighs and knees.  Liposuction has become one of the most popular plastic surgical procedures among men and women because of its versatility and effectiveness.

The tumescent approach and the super-wet technique involve injecting the areas of fat deposits with varying amounts of a saline solution, which includes a local anesthetic and a blood vessel constrictor to maximize comfort, minimize blood loss and create a smoother end result.  Ultrasonic assisted liposuction employs ultrasonic energy to liquefy the fat prior to its removal and is particularly helpful in fibrous or scarred areas.  Dr. Wisnicki will advise you on the approach best suited for your needs.

Liposuction is typically performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation and may be performed on an outpatient basis.  Initial recovery is usually a few days.  A compression garment is used to reduce swelling and enhance skin recontouring.

Breast Augmentation

Breast enlargement may improve self-image, boost confidence and create greater personal comfort in clothing and swimwear.  It can create fullness which was never present or restore fullness lost following pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss.

Other issues, such as breast asymmetry or misshapen breasts, may also be addressed with the use of breast implants.  The procedure may be combined with mastopexy or breast uplifting, if needed, to maximize the improvement of breast contour.

Nipple inversion may also be a cosmetic concern.  After ruling out any underlying cause, the inversion can be corrected at the time of augmentation or other breast procedure.

The surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis under a general anesthetic and takes about 60 to 90 minutes.  Saline or silicone gel implants are placed, usually under the chest wall muscle, to provide a more natural appearing result.  Approaches include small incisions under the breast or around the lower rim of the areola.  Each implant type and surgical approach has its own advantages and Dr. Wisnicki will discuss these with you as it pertains to your individual situation.

Most women are back at work doing non-strenuous activity within one week.  Initial swelling and breast tightness subsides on an ongoing basis over the first several weeks to months.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

The effects of gravity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss and time on the breasts are not usually kind.  Mastopexy can restore a more youthful appearance by raising and reshaping the sagging breast.  The nipple and areola are elevated to a more appropriate level (leaving it attached to the underlying breast tissue) and the breast is recontoured around it.  Excess skin is removed and a widened areola may be reduced. Breast contour abnormalities and asymmetry may be developmental as opposed to age or pregnancy related, and mastopexy may be instrumental in creating a dramatic improvement.  These procedures may be done in conjunction with the placement of implants.

Different techniques may be employed and is usually dictated by the individual’s concerns and anatomy.  Scars may vary based on these approaches from those more limited in the crescent and circumareolar mastopexies to the vertical scar and full mastopexies.  Dr. Wisnicki will review which approach may be best suited for you.

Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammoplasty)

Large, sagging breasts can create physical problems.  Neck, shoulder and back pain are common complaints.  Postural problems, persistent skin rashes, and breast pain may also be present.  Breast reduction entails the surgical removal of up to several pounds of tissue with an uplifting and reshaping of the breasts, providing both a cosmetic and functional result.  When large reductions are required, the procedure generally falls under the heading of reconstructive plastic surgery.  Smaller cosmetic breast reductions may be performed as well.

The procedure usually involves incisions which encircle the areola and then extend down to and horizontally along the breast fold, forming an inverted “T”.  Scars will usually fade over time, but not disappear.  The nipple and areola is typically left attached to the underlying tissue and raised to a higher, more appropriate level and the breast is reduced and sculpted around it.  Patients typically return to non-strenuous work within 7 to14 days.

Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” will reduce excess skin and tighten muscles to give you a smoother, flatter abdomen.  It is a common procedure to address the effects of pregnancy and weight loss and the results can be transforming.

The primary incision is typically horizontal and placed just above the pubic area extending out on each side.  An opening is made around the navel in a full abdominoplasty which tightens the upper and lower abdominal skin.  This may not be required in a modified or “mini” technique.  Liposuction is often performed in adjacent areas at the time of abdominoplasty to maximize overall contouring.

Arm Lift and Thigh Lift

Loss of skin elasticity and changes in contour can affect the arms and legs.  This may be the effects of aging or significant weight loss.

Contouring of the upper arms can be achieved with removal of excess skin.  The scars are typically placed on the inner aspect of the arm to minimize their visibility.  An arm lift (brachioplasty) can eliminate flabby, hanging skin.  Lesser problems may respond well to liposuction alone.

Removal of excess skin and fat tissue of the inner thighs can provide good tightening with a more streamlined appearance.  Scars are generally hidden within the crease of the groin. These procedures are generally performed on an outpatient basis.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

CO2 laser skin treatment removes the superficial layers of the skin in a controlled fashion.  It can reduce and smooth fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture, soften scars and even out skin coloration.  The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis.  Initial healing is approximately 7 -10 days.  Makeup may be desired to camouflage subsequent skin pinkness as healing continues over the ensuing weeks.

Nonablative laser skin treatment- N-LiteTM

This is a gentler laser treatment which stimulates your own natural collagen growth to reduce wrinkles.  It is an office procedure which is safe, quick and painless. There is no healing required and, as such, no downtime.  Typically, two initial treatment sessions are carried out to maximize results.  Effects may not be evident for two to three months as your collagen is being replenished.
