The Ideal Breast Implant Has Arrived – Offered by Dr. Wisnicki

The IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant gives you the natural feel you want, and with advantages over silicone gel implants. Although it is filled with only saline for your peace of mind, the implant has a natural feel because of its internal supporting structure that controls movement of the saline. If the IDEAL IMPLANT ruptures, the saline inside is harmlessly absorbed by the body. In addition, you have the confidence of knowing that your implants are intact just by looking in the mirror. In contrast, if a silicone gel implant ruptures, it is “silent” and cannot be detected by looking in the mirror. Current silicone gel implants have been shown to have a high rate of rupture based on MRI scans. Women have wanted a new type of breast implant – one that would combine the natural feel of a silicone gel implant with only saline inside for safety and peace of mind. After years of research, engineering, product development and a large US clinical trial, the IDEAL IMPLANT was approved by FDA and Health Canada, and is now available through a limited network of board certified or eligible plastic surgeons. The IDEAL IMPLANT has a series of implant shells nested together and two separate chambers that hold the saline. This internal structure controls movement of the saline and supports the implant edges to reduce folding and wrinkling. In addition, the implant has been designed to contour to the natural curve of the chest wall. With the IDEAL IMPLANT, a women can simply look in the mirror and know her implants are intact. The IDEAL IMPLANT has been in clinical […]

Breast Reduction Before and After Case Studies

By Jeffrey Wisnicki, M.D., F.A.C.S. Breast Reduction can literally be a weight off of one’s shoulders. Among the most satisfied patients in plastic surgery practices are women who have experienced the relief of breast reduction after having lived years with the problems associated with oversized, heavy breasts. These women may initially suffer from neck, back, and shoulder pain. Rashes, upper extremity nerve symptoms and headaches are also not uncommon. This issue can be evident as early as the teenage years (a condition called virginal hypertrophy).

Mastopexy – The Breast Uplift: When Implants Aren’t Desired or Aren’t Enough

By: Jeffrey Wisnicki, M.D., F.A.C.S. The shape of a woman’s breast is a result of many factors – some constant, some changing over time.  Genetics and early developmental influences always play a key role and some women may have uneven, tubular-like, or “saggy” appearing breasts from puberty.  Later on, pregnancy and breast feeding may enlarge and then deflate the breasts, sometimes leaving a less than desirable contour.  A similar effect may occur after massive weight loss following a diet program or gastric bypass.   As the aging process continues, the supporting tissues continue to lose elasticity and strength and the breast may succumb to its own weight.  Unfortunately, there are no exercises which will improve the situation.

What Kind and Size of Breast Implants are Right for Me?

There has been a significant increase in availability of the types of breast implants in recent years.   These can be saline of silicone filled, shaped or round, textured or smooth, and may have different profiles or projections. Each has its advantages (and disadvantages).  Saline filled implants have been available for many years, even through the moratorium on silicone filled implants.  These are filled with salt water and are unlikely to cause any local or systemic health concerns if there is a leak.  A deflation is relatively easy to detect clinically and does not require any specialized testing such as an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging study).  They may be placed through a smaller incision meaning a smaller scar.  And they are less costly.
